Psychoses

Psychosis a bright manifestation of mental illness, in which the activity of the patient does not correspond to the surrounding reality. Psychoses are often accompanied by marked motor arousal, delusions, hallucinations and other symptoms.

How to treat psychosis?

All over the world, the most effective and reliable method of therapy is considered to be drug treatment of psychosis, which is based on an individual approach to each patient, taking into account age, sex, and the presence of other diseases. One of the main tasks is to establish fruitful cooperation with the patient. It is necessary to instill in the patient faith in the possibility of recovery, to overcome his beliefs against the “harm” inflicted by psychotropic drugs. The relationship of the doctor and patient should be based on mutual trust, which is guaranteed by the specialist’s compliance with the principles of non-disclosure of information and anonymity of treatment. The patient, in turn, should not hide from the doctor such information as the fact of the use of drugs or alcohol, taking medicines used in general medicine. It is important that medication administration is combined with social rehabilitation programs and, if necessary, with family psychotherapeutic and psychopedagogical work.

Social rehabilitation is a complex of training programs for patients with mental disorders to rational behavior methods, both in a hospital and in everyday life. Rehabilitation is aimed at teaching social skills to interact with other people, skills needed in everyday life, such as taking into account your own finances, cleaning the house, shopping, using public transport, etc. Also, psychotherapy is often used to help the mentally ill. Psychotherapy helps to treat yourself better, especially to those people who feel a sense of inferiority due to their illness and those who want to deny the presence of the disease. An important element of social rehabilitation is participation in the work of mutual support groups along with other people who understand what it means to be mentally ill.

One of the most important factors influencing the prognosis of psychosis is the timeliness of the onset and the intensity of active treatment in combination with social rehabilitation measures.
