Free and preferential provision of medicines for certain categories of citizens

Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated November 30, 2007 No. 1650 “On some issues of free and preferential provision of medicines and dressings for certain categories of citizens” approved the Regulations on the procedure for free and preferential provision of medicines and dressings for certain categories of citizens and the List of diseases that give the right of citizens to free provision of medicines issued on prescription within the List of Essential Medicines, for outpatient treatment, as well as medical nutrition.

The categories of citizens entitled to preferential drug provision have been approved.

Free provision of medicines issued according to doctor’s prescriptions within the list of essential medicines has:

disabled children under the age of 18 and children under the age of 3.

Heroes of Belarus, Heroes of the Soviet Union, Heroes of Socialist Labor, full cavaliers of the Orders of the Fatherland, Glory, Labor Glory, participants in the Great Patriotic War, war invalids, persons who took part in special formations in clearing territories and objects after liberation from German occupation in 1943- 1945;

persons awarded orders and (or) medals of the USSR for selfless work and impeccable military service in the rear during the Great Patriotic War;

persons who worked at air defense facilities, local air defense, in the construction of defensive structures, naval bases, airfields and other military facilities within the rear borders of active fronts, on front-line sections of railways and highways;

members of the crews of the ships of the transport fleet, interned at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in the ports of other states;

persons who worked at enterprises, institutions and organizations of the city of Leningrad during the blockade from September 8, 1941 to January 27, 1944 and were awarded the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad”, and persons awarded the sign “Inhabitant of besieged Leningrad”, etc .;

A 90% discount is provided for the cost of medicines issued on prescription within the list of essential medicines, and for surgical diseases – also dressings (if there is an appropriate medical certificate), citizens who fell ill and suffered radiation sickness caused by the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster NPP, other radiation accidents; disabled persons of groups I and II, except for persons whose disability has occurred as a result of unlawful actions, due to alcohol, narcotic, toxic intoxication, self-mutilation.

A 50% discount on the cost of medicines issued on prescription from doctors within the list of essential medicines for the treatment of a disease that led to disability is provided for disabled people of group III, except for persons entitled to free provision of medicines.
